Rain v.34 {by Jeff}

So, today is Rainey's birthday! She's 34 and she thinks she's old but you'd never think that talking to her. She's young at heart, she looks better than ever, and I think she always will. Today is a day all about her. For us that's the best part of birthdays. Everything is what you want the way you want it all day long. So in the spirit of that lets talk about Rainey.

It's difficult to put into words how I feel about Rainey. It wasn't always though. When we first got married it was a much more tangible thing. Something you could hold on to (and I did). But it's grown beyond that. My love for her is an all consuming fact of life. Rainey is awesome, but you all know that already. You can't know her and not think that. I'm officially declaring that an impossibility.

I enjoyed the Rainey themed question and answer I did a while back so I thought I'd do a round 2. Maybe next year Syd will be able to participate.

What's your favorite thing about Rainey/Mom?
Riley: She understands how I feel and she takes me out shopping when I want to go.

Cole: She's nice and she's the best Mom I ever had. She does make me food... I'm just glad to have her in the house

Jeff: She's just the greatest friend you could ever imagine. She literally makes your life/day/hour better just by being there with you. Plus she's great eye candy.

If she wasn't your Mom what would she be?
R: She'd be working at the post office, Because she told me she was interested in that job a few years ago.

C: A teacher. Because she's smart and she helps me with my math.

J: Well… She's not my mom, but if she wasn't my wife she'd maybe be living in Wyoming as like, a Rodeo Princess or something. I don't know... I've got no real answer for that because in all other alternate realities she still married to me.

What cartoon character is Rainey/Mom most like and why?
R: Bubby (the whale) from Flap Jack. Because she stands up for her kids and their attitudes are alike.

C: Frankie from Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Because she always has to do work and because she makes good food.

J: Leela from Futurama. If you trade having one eye for thinking she's crazy it's a perfect fit. She's tough and feisty and she even has a lost confused man-child who adores her.

If you could change one thing about Rainey/Mom what would it be?
R: Nothing. There's nothing to change. I like her the way she is.

C: Nothing. Because she's a great Mom.

J: That's a tough one. Aren't your faults also what make you who you are? I'll go with something small like her dislike of The Venture Bros.

How did Mom and I meet? (I just wanted to see if they new this)
R: Keri worked with Mom, Keri said that she should meet Dad. Keri took Mom over to your house and you were kinda shy but now you're happy together because you got to know each other.

C: You met her at the bagel shop. You were eating bagels and you asked mom for a date.

J: So, Riley was pretty much right. Cole is confusing the story of how we got engaged with how we met. I asked her to marry me at Einstein Bagel in Orem.

If Mom was bitten by a Zombie what would you do?
R: I'd find an antidote or get bitten too, so we could be Zombies together.

C: (Refused to answer because I said the word Zombie)

J: Personally I like Riley's answer, to become Zombies together (I'm so proud) but Rainey and I have already discussed this many times. "Destroy the Brain or Remove the Head". Nuff said.

If Rainey/Mom had a super power what would it be?
R: Super cleaning powers so she could get chores done faster, we'd have a cleaner house and we could spend more time together. Oh, and then we wouldn't have to do any work.

C: The Power to clean the house faster. Because it takes her a long time to clean the entire house.

J: I don't know what all this cleaning super power is about (she does a great job without the powers) Rainey currently has a few super powers but I can't discus them in polite conversation. Oh, I just thought of something. I don't know how many people watch Fringe but there's this character who had the power to make everyone in the vicinity feel exactly how he feels, good or bad. That would be her super power.

So there it is. Maybe that's some insight into how we feel about Rainey… and maybe not. Anyway, we love you Rainey. You are the center of our universe. Happy birthday!

Oh. My. Gosh. Is it tacky that I'm commenting on my own post that's specially for me? I don't care. This was freaking fantastic. I seriously love my picture. And if I could be guaranteed to look like THAT, I would ride Buffaloes everywhere I went. Stigmata of country life be damned. I love my little family. SO, so much. :)

You do look like that, that is the first thing I thought, it looks just like Rainey. I agree, we love Rainey just the way she is.

Hey Rain and Jeff,

Loved the illustration. And happy birthday, Rain! Your family is the coolest little unit and you all totally get each other. It makes me smile. :)

Best wishes to you on your 34th,
Lora

Wow. Seriously wow. You know, Rainey, you have a very wonderful life. And I won't say "lucky" because the person you are and have worked to be totally deserves what you have. It's not luck. Do you know how amazing it is to have a husband who will express to you his love in this way? Art and words? And I am sure just daily other this and thats. Not to mention your amazing kids. And you aren't "lucky" (like I said). This is something you have worked for personally as a human and deserve completely. I am so happy that you are surrounded in people who love you and know that it is important to tell you and make you special. YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!! I am telling you too! Love to you tons and tons. Hugs and smooches eternally.

Oh. And I am really happy you are riding a buffalo. Appropriate? I want to ride a buffalo!

Wait, you turned 34 yesterday? I wonder why I've never picked up on that. Ryan turns 34 today, and I turn 34 on Tuesday. I'm quite certain you are not old.

I love your family's answers. They must like you or something. Happy late birthday!

I'm not so certain that not liking Venture Bros is something SMALL.

You're a bigger man than I for not making that a deal breaker, Jeff.

Somehow I missed the last 3 or 4 posts. That makes for A LOT of catch up reading. Happy birthday again! I hope you watched the link I sent you about your picture on facebook.

I realized I typed "stigmata", instead of "stigma". Though I feel the need to point it out, I don't feel completely mortified that once again I tried to spice up my vocabulary, and failed. I must be getting to that point in life where I can show my ignorance, and that's okay.
My birthday was fantastic, just so you all know. I'm okay with being called a whale, cause if you've seen Flapjack, then you know Bubby is pretty phenomenal. And I almost cried when I read this post, as well. I need to give credit where credit is due: Jeff makes me feel good. But as you can see, there are also times when he really outdoes himself, and says and does very artfully beautiful things, just for me.

As far as looking like the picture he drew of me, I tried to make my hair like that, and it didn't work. But it's better to have a picture done like this, where I look like a rodeo princess than like...in Napoleon Dynamite, where she looks handicapped. The latter is more true, but it makes me feel good that he sees me as the former. Make sense?
And I DID watch the Guy on a Buffalo video...and loved it. In fact, I had to send the link to Jeff, so he could send it to people that may be missing out. If anyone is wondering what I'm talking about, go to my facebook page and click on my profile pic. Read Kory's comment, watch the video, and have a happy seven minutes or so.

I agree that my family is an awesome unit. We just all fit together. Even when we don't. It's complicated sometimes, but it really works. Maybe I shouldn't describe it as luck, but it just exceeds any and all expectations I'd imagined for my adult life. Or life in general, for that matter. I guess 34 isn't that old. But I remember thinking about what life would be like in my almost-mid-30's. And I was really old looking in my thoughts. Sometimes I over think it, and wonder if I really DO look that way, yet I've just gotten used to it. It's a total vanity/wondering if I'm delusional thing.
And Jeff has mentioned that Venture Bros. is everything awesome for guys: Teenage guys, up to adult guys. I think it's the same joke, over and over and over. Perhaps we are both right.

So writing a comment on iPhone sucks major you know what. However, I am persevering to tell you that this post was awesome... And made me super jealous. It's not every day a husband draws you a picture and wires how he feels about you. As a side note, I often think that I look much younger than I am as well. Maybe we do! Or maybe the 20 year olds are thinking in their heads "look at that old chick trying to be young". As long as they don't tell mr out loud. I'm fine. Happy birthday buffalo rider!!! From Leah... Not Tor.

Tor said...

And all the typos are because iPhone sucks. You should just blame any future stigmatas on that!

I am so late to the party, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am totally on Team Cole with the Zombie thing. I can't handle it, I totally get it Cole. Kory and I started watching The Walking Dead, by Kory and I, I mean Kory watching and I hiding as much as possible under the covers all the while clenching my fists and sweating like crazy. And then my nights are equally exhausting as I have had too many dreams about burring people in our yard since.

But this isn't about me, it is about you and this post. Jeff is awesome to do this for you. I LOVE the picture. And The buffalo show is pretty much our theme song these days. "GUY ON A BUFFALOOOOO! We sing it so much Axel says buffalooo like that. :)

Hope it was a good day!

Leah, like all my Facebook posts have had a bazillion typos because of my iPhone. It takes forever to type something out, and by then, you're too tired to re-read everything so you post it..and once it's up, you realize that your smartphone has very kindly inserted what it THINKS you meant to say. Annoying.
Anyway, maybe we DO look like totally young foxes. I had a checker in Target that I looked WAY too young to have the kids I do. Recently. It made my day. (Okay, it made my month). And I'm sure that some girl working at Target would totally know. You know?
And Amy...How can you NOT love the Walking Dead? ;) I'll tell Cole that you understand his zombie aversion. He'll be relieved that someone gets it. And my birthday was fantastic, thank you. :)

rain said...

Balls. *I had a checker in Target TELL ME* I can't even blame that on my iPhone.

I finally figured out how to do this. I am glad you had a good birthday. Can't wait to see you. I wouldn't understand about the iphone thing, but I do know about typos. I make more than my share. Hopefully now I can comment when I read your blogs. Love you.

Love you, too, Mom. See you in a week!

Thanks, Shauna. :) I kinda like Jeff's writing, myself. Especially when it's about me.
