Hey You. You missed me, didn't ya? Of course you did.
I think that my last post mentioning how lazy I've been was kind of a mistake. Because all of a sudden, life seems to have gotten a LOT busier.
This last week we had a lot of visitors. My mom and stepdad came down from Canada. It was nice to see them, and they took the kids and I to the Aquarium in Sandy and the Dinosaur Museum in Lehi. We started the day at the Aquarium, and we had a lot of fun...the last time we were there, it was only half the size it is now, so I would recommend going to those that haven't been in a while.
And then we were off to the nearest Target...because Sydney peed all over the front of me while we were looking at the South African fish. I'm going to just say it: PAMPERS are NOT what they are cracked up to be. Buy Luvs--you won't be sorry. After purchasing a new shirt, we were then off to the Dinosaur Museum. I'd never been before, and we all really liked it.
I REALLY liked that part. :)
Riley loved reading the factoids around each exhibit. She can remember all of it, and always amazes me with the stuff that she retains. However, they didn't have anything written up for this section...and I think we all know why:
I was kind of surprised that this arrangement of bones wasn't vetoed.
Syd did her best at trying to replicate the facial expressions of each prehistoric creature she was stopped next to. (For those of you with dirty minds, I didn't park her next to the above display).
Syd was great the whole time. However, a consecutive three hours of wearing actual clothing is just too much for her. So she decided that she was done wearing them.
Coincidentally, this is why I haven't had a lot of pictures of Syd. Although I think she's adorable in her birthday suit, and she seems to think it's the most comfortable outfit she owns, it doesn't transcend that way through photographs--instead coming across as creepy and uncomfortable. And that was our day. Big thanks to Mom and Scott. They entertained all of us the entire time, and trust me, it's not easy. I've got a lot more to write about, but I've got to pace myself. Hope this gives you something to read as you're pretending to work, and all of you have a good Monday!
This past weekend was pretty fantastic. We used the "fire pit" in our backyard to make S'mores, and I used quotes because I don't think it's really a fire pit. I think it's actually a little flower garden-thingy...
But after some severe weeding and starting an actual fire in it? Boom. It's now a true fire pit. Or as true as we can make. So...yay for our ingenuity.
Jeff also decided to put our kitchen sink to work:
Look at her perfect little heart-shaped bum. She thought bathing in front of a window was pretty radical. Except when she couldn't FULLY stretch out, she was ready to be done.
The next day Jeff and I did some massive pruning. The flowers are gone now, so I didn't feel too bad about cutting all the Wisteria way down. But, now when I walk under it, it doesn't rip all my hair out. I know that pictures of plant life being cut back isn't as interesting to you as it is to me, definitely, but I'm always really amazed at how much time and effort it takes. When I was done, despite the two city garbage cans full of branches, it didn't look all that different. It's not like mowing, where everything looks so much nicer after you're done. Sometimes it's a little depressing.
Anyway, I should have taken more pictures at the Anderson family BBQ on Monday, but I got overly lazy. I was enjoying the company, and the sun, and the food, and just...forgot. Until Jeff showed up with Syd. She jumped on the trampoline with her cousin Story and Riley for a while, but then decided that she was done--her attention span is pretty pathetic.
We decided to get in the pool. Syd hated it at first, and slowly she came around. I made Jeff get the camera while we swam, and that's why these pictures actually turned out--cause I didn't take them.
After our swim we visited, chased Syd, and watched fireworks with family. It was a great 4th of July holiday. Big thanks to Bob and Maida for the get-together and the yummy BBQ, to everyone that brought food for me to eat, and to the Stevensons and Coplens for the fireworks. We're so lucky to have people that entertain us. It was fun seeing everyone.
So it's official. I have become so lazy that I can't even blog lately. I get these ideas, and then I'm like..."Wait--that would mean I need to take some pictures and come up with ideas; preferably interesting". And thus, no posts, because that is way too much pressure for me these days. And I go back to whatever it was that I was doing, which is watering the plants, or setting the hose, or taking care of the lawn. Stuff that I would have sworn I'd hate? I'm actually loving.
And see what I have to work with? It's kind of overwhelming because I have no clue as to what I'm doing, but it's nice having the chance. At our last house it was all about getting grass to grow...now it's other stuff. A lot of it. What you're seeing is after two weekends of Jeff cutting down trees and shrubs that had grown out of control. And due to my lack of photo taking skills, it still looks kind of messy, but it's a bazillion times better than it was. Next year it's going to be amazing. This is my goal.
I know. Who have I become?
I'm loving it here...and the kids and Jeff are, too. With Jeff's schedule, he gets to work from home a lot. Now with the extra room, we can find places here in which we actually have the ability to keep to ourselves. We can stay out of each others way, and so while Jeff is technically working, we all try to let him do his stuff. Except for Syd.
Just so you know, any of us would be told that he's "trying to get work done", and to "give him his space". But not "Daddy's Baby Girl". She does whatever she wants.
Just in case you couldn't tell from the first picture, I had to post this one--check out Jeff's arms as he's "working". And yet Syd is permitted to take up ALL the space she likes. Dis-gust-ing. Proof there is obvious favoritism involved.
The family room is Syd's favorite place. Not only does it have the TV, but (obviously), this is where Jeff does a lot of his work, and if Riley and Cole come up to watch a movie or play the Wii, Syd can usually convince them to take her out and let her jump on the trampoline.
We finally got our room fixed up. I guess it would be more correct to say, "I finally got most of our crap put away in our bedroom so that it now looks like a bedroom". And as you can see, our love for the color brown is stronger than ever. I'm wondering what that says about us...
And that's the entrance to our closet. Fyi, it's messy again, so I didn't take a picture of the inside. But just know it's still incredibly awesome. (Jeff said that the pictures I take make all our rooms look a lot smaller than they actually are. But I think if he can do better, then he should be in charge of the situation. And let me just say that you'd then have to use your imaginations for everything). Obviously my way is better. Right?
Cole has been the biggest surprise, I think. He loves his room. He loves to keep it immaculate. And he loves to remind me that Riley doesn't have that same love for her room. Earlier this week he said to me, "Mom, now I don't want to be mean....but I was walking past Riley's room, and there was a LOT of toys and stuff on her floor. A LOT. I wonder why it's so hard for her to keep her room clean? I think it's SO easy". I thanked him for his input and then proceeded to check out Riley's room. It was as he said, a complete pigsty. After I told Riley to clean her room or she couldn't have her friend come over, I noticed that Cole was bringing the vacuum out of his room. "Oh, I just wanted to make sure my carpet looked nice, too, Mom". That's my boy. :)
He has like three tables on which to build Lego stuff. When Sydney goes downstairs he watches her like a hawk--he doesn't want her to "mess his room up", or "eat his Legos".
And finally, Riley got her room somewhat organized. Not up to Cole's standards, but at least you could walk into it. So her friend from school did get to come over. We're all very settled. It's a fantastic change from last month at this time, when we were living out of and on, boxes.
Anyway, that's where we are right now. I'm enjoying having visitors, because we can actually talk and such without the kids being right in the middle of everything. That always used to be so stressful to me, and now they have options to be elsewhere, and so they use them. It's awesome. Not that I don't love having the kids around, it's just been hectic for so long that having space is a completely welcome change for all of us.
Word up, yo. It's been a while. In all honesty? All the scrubbing, vacuuming, organizing and de-junking I've been doing daily has been taking its tole on me...and then when I get on my computer, I've only got the energy to read the stuff of others. The gist of the last few weeks is this: The kids love the new house. In fact, Riley told me today that she feels like we've always been here. That she's SO at "home" here. Even more so than at the "old house" as it is now apparently referred to. And Cole loves having his own room when he needs "time alone". Which happens to be quite often. This year and last, Cole received the "most sensitive student" award. When he is sad, everyone knows. The sad part is, he gets this from Jeff and from myself, so the kid is really screwed. But, we are trying to go about this the right way: which I think is, encouraging him to feel the way he needs to, but to sometimes let it blow over, and wait to be distraught in private. I think this will help him in his day to day. I can see him being a VERY easy target on the playground and hopefully, we can avoid as much excess pain as possible. And Sydney? Well, never has she been happier. I mean, it was touch and go for a while...not a lot of sleep, and new surroundings and different smells and people and hours. But now I think we are all just feeling really, as Riley says, "At home". And Sydney goes out in the backyard and smells flowers, and swings, and jumps on the trampoline. It's amazing having such a great yard. Back and front. It really sounds like I'm bragging. And I'm trying not to, because that's not the way I want to tell you about it. I just love it. Jeff loves it. Our house still needs a lot of work and we have the next few years cut out for us, but we really have so much to enjoy, too. And the excess space? Well, we've acclimated quite nicely. Big thanks to Bob and Maida and Kory and Amy and Muff and Chris (Alphabetically). And my mom and grandparents. And my sister-in-law Gabby. She's a whirlwind and an amazing cleaner. You guys helped us so much, and I really appreciated it. Whether it was watching kids, or actual moving or cleaning, you saved me a lot of work and worry. You all enabled me to go to bed at like, 2 am instead of NEVER. So, without further ado, some pictures: (But you need to realize that my photo taking skills are nil. And there are a lot more picture-worthy things as well, but I'm too tired to take some more. And to appreciate the true grandeur, you need to come on over and check it out yourselves). :)

So, the kids rooms and the play room and their bathroom and the yard(s) and so on and so forth are still a bit rough, and I can't bring myself to post them yet. But for right now, this is what you get. Maybe I'll get more soon, but I'm feeling good that I finally got a post on my blog. Maybe I'll start blogging more often again. Who knows?
More of the same. Which is, still sitting here, in squalor, going insane...not having any room to move anything or clean anything. Except...I cleaned up some puke this morning--that's new. I would take some pictures, (not of the puke), but I'm so tired of seeing my house like this each day that I can't look at it any more than absolutely necessary. I'm kinda afraid that the longer the Lenders of our buyers hold out, the less chance the new owners will have of moving into a somewhat nice place. All our disappointments seem to be manifesting themselves into more messes and spills and laziness and apathy. I'm thinking this is one of the reasons that "crack houses" look the way they do. Just my opinion, of course...but I'm pretty used to being right.
In other news, we went GROCERY shopping. This was a good thing. We recently found out that we will have to be leaving our fridge behind--an oversight that screwed us all over. So we decided to just use all our freezer stuff and fridge stuff, instead of spending money for more stuff. That would have been a great idea...if the contents of our freezer weren't completely freezer burned and had expirations of, most recently, two years ago. I guess some family traits die hard, right? :)
Anyway, after we found out that we won't be able to close until at least this coming Wednesday-excuse me, THEY won't be able to close, because we already have-we just kinda withered into defeatism, and have been here for the last four days. It's a somewhat glum place. And it smells a little like gasoline, and none of us know why, only that we hope this house doesn't blow up within the stated amount of time. So maybe we're living in a "Meth house", instead. Take your pick.
So yeah...We may be able to start moving in on Thursday. I won't say, "by the latest", because this is a phrase I've heard A LOT over the past two months, and I've decided that in this industry, there's no such thing. So I'm going to say: "I hope we get to move in by Thursday, because that was the last date that was mentioned to me...and at the time I was thinking: THURSDAY?! WTF?! But now I'm thinking: Fingers crossed everybody!"
I'm assuming there's some grand lesson we're supposed to be learning here. As of yet, I'll admit it: I'm clueless and pissed. But, I did notice in today's ads that Best Buy is having a deal on washers, dryers, fridges, and freezers. So maybe that's it. I'm really reaching here, but there's not a lot else I can do about it.
I went to our new house last night...just to check the mail, and, according to the bright red note taped on the door for all to see, the power has been turned off there. Awesome.
This is the only reason I can think of to shake my fist at the reality of this being a Holiday weekend. Any other time I'm be happy to be lazy and just enjoy my pajamas. But I'm tired of that, now. I want to be able to complain about nicks and dents in walls from the move, and hang clothes in my new ginormous closet--and here's an idea: WEAR SOME DIFFERENT CLOTHES. I may just retire the three pairs of sweats I've been living in for the last two weeks. At this point I would say, "I Will", but we all know that my love of sweatpants is greater than that. I will retire two pairs, for sure...as they have paint splats in ugly places. I'm not that far gone...not yet anyway. I'll have to see on Thursday.
Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend. Even if I'm so totally not.
No one can say I'm not a giver.
BIG FAT NOTHING!
We closed on our house...on Tuesday. (Without money, but the buyers were supposed to close today, and everything was supposed to fund by at latest, Friday). Our buyers DID NOT close today. The lenders need "more employment information". So everything done in good faith is now up in the air, waiting for some more good faith. Whatever.
Until they close, the money doesn't appear.
Until the money appears, we can't start moving crap.
Until we start moving crap, we really can't clean, because everything is crowded and horrible.
Until everything stops being crowded and horrible, I'll continue to be grouchy and prone to migraines.
Poop, poop, poopy-poop, crap. I'm angry and frustrated and cynical. Until next time.
Me again. Answerless. Yet again. When will I know what's going on with the moving process? No clue. When will I know when I'll need help moving? No clue. When will we be able to put our tons of crap into our newer larger home to accommodate said amounts of crap? NO FREAKING CLUE. And let me just say this anger is NOT aimed at those of you that have offered your services and time, not at all. I honestly appreciate it. I just hate the fact that I have nothing to tell you. And if I do tell you something, I'm changing it at least twenty times before anything actually happens. And then there's the situation of the guy that's renting from the owner of the home we're buying. Today we are going to do a scary drive-by to scope it out, and see if there's any evidence that he's getting his stuff and moving it. And I feel kind of bad, because he's been on the same roller coaster we all have--one day needing to get out, and the next day hearing that something didn't go through, so he's good for a while longer. (Btw, it looks like things are moving along at the house that we'll move into. Hopefully he also remembers to clean his toilets). Anyway, that's my update for you all. Things could happen this week, but we don't know.

In other news, I am now convinced that I would be a serial killer if I had to confine myself into a small space with people I love and not be able to put things where I want them. Funny how something so little will put me over the edge. How having a mountain of boxes in my way, and the dishes and silverware all willy-nilly will make me stay awake at night and plot some kind of revenge on everyone and everything. Also a bit on the scary side.
In other news, the process of packing and having things unorganized and what-not isn't hard only for me. Syd has recently begun to look like an abused baby. More abused than normal, anyway. She's gotten a black eye, and a lot of bruises and cuts within the last week.
And we've had less time to just sit with her and tickle her arms and legs, so she's been pretty clingy. I'm thinking that once you get used to "Princess Status", it's not an easy role to just give up. I feel bad that Riley and Cole were little at a time when Jeff and I were always going--and life was just too busy to have a lot of time to just sit and rub little arms and legs. But we tried to schedule it in whenever possible. Sydney, however, seems to think it's her daily right, because she's so beautiful that there isn't anything Jeff or myself should or would rather be doing.
Honestly? She kind of has something there. Youngest kids are the luckiest ones, for sure. I can honestly say that now. Because parents know that they won't have this time again, and so they try to cram in every second they can, because that time goes so fast. Okay, that's all for now. Hopefully I'll have some more news--GOOD news--later this week. Later y'all.
